As a photographer, I believe your engagement session is one of the most important parts of the pre-wedding process for four big reasons….

1. It gives us a chance to spend time together and get to know each other better before the big day.

Let’s face it. You spend a lot of time with your photographer on your wedding day. And I mean a lot. Probably more than your family, your friends, and sometimes even your spouse-to-be. I am with you the entire day, capturing every single moment. That’s why it is so important to me that you’re comfortable with me. The absolute best is when it feels like I’m just another friend celebrating your wedding day with you, and I just happen to be photographing it as well. That way you look happy and relaxed in all your photos because you’re hardly aware that I’m even there! I just LOVE when that happens!

I believe the engagement session is such a crucial step in getting us to that point. Often, the only time the three of us actually spend together before your wedding day (outside your engagement shoot) is our initial consultation… One hour! Definitely not enough time to become besties. However, during your engagement session, the three of us will have much more time to bond and get to know each other! That’s truly when all of the relationship building happens. Many times, we end up having so much fun that we wind up getting dinner or drinks together afterward!

2. It gives you a chance to get comfortable in front of my camera so you’ll know exactly what to do and be posing pros by the time the wedding rolls around.

Posing can be intimidating for couples. Trust me, I get it. Probably the phrase I hear most often at the beginning of a session is “I’m so awkward in front of the camera” or “You’re going to have to help us and tell us what to do”. Which is simply never true! All anyone needs is a bit of direction, and they can look like movie stars on camera! And that’s what I’m here to help you with! I specialize in posing that feels natural and candid, so don’t worry – I’ve got your back. However it does usually take a minute for my couple to loosen up and get used to being in front of my camera. The engagement session allows for you to get super comfortable and become very familiar with my posing, so that you don’t have to worry about any of that on your wedding day!

3. It gives you a set of beautiful images that you can use for save the-dates, your wedding website, prints to display at the rehearsal dinner or reception, frames for your wall in your new home together, and so much more!

It might be hard to believe (amidst your excitement for your wedding day), but there will be times when you will want to have photos of yourselves that don’t involve a wedding dress and a tuxedo. Photos to decorate your walls with, or even share on social media. I mean, you don’t want the only photos of yourselves in your home to be ones of you on your wedding day, do you? Plus, you’re engagement photos are going to be so unique! They’ll be in a stunning location, you’ll look like movie stars all dressed up, and we’ll have all the time in the world to get absolutely gorgeous photos wrapped in beautiful natural light that you will treasure forever. Trust me, you’ll want to display these bad boys everywhere.

4. It gives you a way to freeze this special time in your life.

A chance to pause, take a deep breath and relish in this season together. You’ll be husband and wife for fifty plus years, but you only get to be fiancés for a short little window of your life! With your engagement session, I want to help you slow down long enough to remember this short, sweet season of life for years to come.

As a photographer, I believe in capturing as many moments as possible. Whether they’re milestone moments like an engagement, or just the little moments in between. Every season of life is so important, because one day you’ll look back and realize that those were the moments that shaped your life and your story. Don’t you want to remember those moments? Wouldn’t it be great if a photograph could help you remember those moments and the emotions you felt during that time?

You’re engagement is one moment you will absolutely want to remember and reminisce on… The excitement of starting your life together. The anticipation of your wedding day. The “honeymoon phase” so to speak. It’s a hugely significant time that’s often overlooked during the craziness of wedding planning (a bit like how everyone rushes through Thanksgiving just to get to Christmas). But this time, these moments, are too important to overlook or forget. Trust me, your engagement photos will be fighting with your wedding photos for “favorite” when this is all over.
