I first met Alana for a styled shoot we collaborated on earlier this year. I had two main thoughts that day. My first was “Oh my god this are the most beautiful floral arrangements I’ve ever seen”. And the second was “Oh my god this is the sweetest, cutest girl I’ve ever met”. Our conversation was short as I picked up the two bouquets and flower crown from her. But I knew instantly how special she was.

Last week I had the tremendous pleasure of spending more time with her and showing my gratitude to her for those incredible floral designs. We had a photoshoot! And it was nothing short of amazing. Alana is a pure joy to be around. The more we talked the more she amazed me. Not only is she extremely talented with florals, she’s also passionate about photography and videography! Something I can 100% relate to!

Her love for the ocean and capturing it’s beauty shined through every word she spoke. I watched her eyes as she talked about her recent project at the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument. I could feel the ocean fall and rise and heard the sounds of nature at the wildlife refuge, envisioning every incredible moment of her adventure.

Alana’s passion for this place was so great that it led to the creation of a truly incredible project. The Last Wild Place won first place in the 2018 Society for Features Journalism Excellence-In-Features Award, a prestigious national media competition. I believe it goes without saying that this girl is one unique gem. Alana, it was such a pleasure and a joy meeting you and getting to know you. The tiny glimpse I got into your life was enough to see that you have a truly beautiful soul. And it all pours out through that stunning and infectious smile of yours!! I can’t tell you how honored I was to capture that joy for you, and celebrate your one-of-a-kind beauty. I love empowering women and making them feel gorgeous, but this time was special.
