These people. This place. These memories…
Lauren’s father walked me around the family farm, telling me the incredibly rich history of the land we were standing on. The farm was over 120 years old. Before his father acquired the land in the 1950’s, it belonged to one of Omaha’s wealthiest families. He showed me an old stepping stone that they believe was for the carriages. The carriages would come and go, bringing party-goers to the dancehall that once stood where Lauren’s family home stands now.
An old stone wall lined the once-traveled path for the carriages from the main road to the barns behind the house. There were once eleven barns on the property, serving a variety of purposes. Two of those barns still stood strong at around 120 years old. The red paint was slightly faded and the wood was worn from the years. But the history was stronger than ever.
Lauren’s father spoke with a sparkle in his eyes. He had researched the history of the farm, collected pictures of the people that once lived there, and had given it to his father as a gift. He had also given Lauren the gift of calling that special place home. Her childhood was spent running around that beautiful property. And someday, the farm would pass to her and her soon-to-be husband, Matt. To carry on the years of history, family, love, and memories.
Lauren and Matt could not have been sweeter. After getting to know them and spending just a couple hours together, I felt as if we were old friends. The love and happiness that surrounds these two is so strong. It’s hard to miss. And it’s certainly easy to watch. I absolutely loved seeing these two so happy and in love. It brings so much joy to this crazy world!
